Scubadex Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Scubadex (“the App,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use our mobile application. Scubadex is developed and provided by Adamc07328, contactable at scubadexapp@gmail.com.

Scubadex is designed to be offline-first. There is no account creation, no login, and no central server database storing your personal dive data. Your dive log, gear, certifications, and species discoveries are stored locally on your device unless you choose to back them up yourself, as described below.

1. Information We Collect

Scubadex does not require you to create an account and does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifying contact information directly.

The App does access or store the following categories of information, only as needed to provide its core features:

Dive location data (geolocation): When you log a dive manually or import a dive from a supported dive computer, GPS coordinates associated with that dive may be captured and stored locally on your device. This location data is used to display your dive on a map within the App and to retrieve historical weather conditions for that location and time.
Photo gallery access: The Certifications feature allows you to attach an image (e.g. a photo of a certification card) by selecting a photo from your device’s gallery. The App accesses your gallery only when you actively choose to select an image for this purpose; it does not access your gallery at any other time.
Dive computer data: If you import dives from a supported dive computer (currently Suunto, via JSON export), the imported data — including depth, time, temperature, and location profiles — is stored locally on your device in the same way as manually entered dives.
Dive insurance details: If you choose to add dive insurance information (such as provider, policy number, and validity), this is entered directly by you and stored locally on your device in the same way as your other dive and gear data.

We do not collect payment information, do not currently offer in-app purchases, and do not access your contacts or camera.

2. How Your Information Is Used

All dive, gear, certification, and species data you enter or import is used solely to provide the App’s functionality to you, on your device. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the features you directly interact with.

3. Third-Party Services

Scubadex uses the following third-party services to provide certain features. When these features are used, limited data (such as coordinates or a search query) is transmitted to these services as necessary for them to function:

Google Maps SDK — used to display dive locations on a map within the App. Google’s handling of this data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
Open-Meteo API — used to retrieve historical weather data for a dive’s logged location and time. Open-Meteo’s handling of this data is governed by their own privacy practices.
Google Forms — the App includes an optional link to a Google Form for submitting feedback. If you choose to use this link, any information you submit is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and is collected directly by Google Forms, not by Scubadex.

We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and we do not share your data with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.

4. Data Storage and Backups

Your dive log and related data are stored locally on your device by default. Scubadex includes an optional backup feature that allows you to export a backup file to a folder of your choosing, using Android’s Storage Access Framework.

You control where this backup is stored. If you choose a folder that is synced to a cloud service (such as Google Drive or Dropbox), your backup will also exist in that cloud service, subject to that service’s own privacy practices. If you choose a folder that exists only on your device, your backup will not leave your device, and will be lost if your device is lost, damaged, or reset. Scubadex does not transmit your backup files to any server we control.

5. Data Deletion

Because your data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by:

Deleting individual entries within the App, or
Uninstalling the App, which removes all locally stored data, or
Deleting any backup files you have separately created, from wherever you chose to store them.

Since Scubadex does not maintain a server-side account or database, there is no separate “delete my account” request process required — uninstalling the App and removing any personal backups achieves full deletion of your data.

6. Children’s Privacy

Scubadex is not directed at, marketed to, or intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, please contact us at scubadexapp@gmail.com.

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete data, and the right to know what data is collected and how it is used. Because Scubadex stores your data locally on your device rather than on a server we control, you can directly exercise most of these rights yourself at any time through the App or by uninstalling it, as described in Section 5.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if new features (such as in-app payments or additional dive computer integrations) change how data is handled. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page when changes are made. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

This policy applies specifically to the Scubadex mobile application. It does not cover third-party websites or services that Scubadex may link to, including Google Forms, Google Maps, or Open-Meteo, each of which is governed by its own privacy policy.
